History

Rarely is a new type of gemstone discovered that is so extraordinary it breathtakingly captivates its audience. As fate had it, that gemstone made its debut in late 2014 after a long-awaited rest.

Unearthed from a onetime pocket in 1987 by a group of miners in Morogoro, Tanzania, these rare and extraordinary color-change gems were then tucked away in a safe like a time capsule… for over twenty-seven years. In 2014, that safe was opened.

Welcome back, Pastel Pyrope Garnet.

Unveiling

In late 2014, a group of three cutters excitedly purchased a small amount of highly-saturated pink garnet rough, assuming it was rhodolite. After cutting a few of them, it was time to mount them into exquisite jewelry. This is when the discovery happened. One of the cutters, who is also a bench jeweler, was setting one of these fine gems into a ring using a microscope which featured a daylight equivalent bulb. Upon getting up to steam the finished ring, he noticed a strong color change under the incandescent lighting of his shop. Moving the ring light source to light source to be sure of what his eyes had seen, he confirmed the vibrant pink to intense purple color change.

Then the talk began. Actually, it went wild.

The scarce availability of these unparalleled gems makes them very rare. The fact that under different light sources their scintillating color change rivals the finest Alexandrite makes them extraordinary.
